1. Use a Curiosity-Driven Headline

The first critical part of any sales page is the headline. 

You want something that’s punchy, and intriguing, and encourages your audience to keep scrolling.

Think about what will spark their interest most. 

What is your target market struggling with the most? Answering that question requires you to know who your target market is. 

Here are some other questions to ask yourself when you’re brainstorming headline ideas…

  • What emotions does my book evoke? 
  • What kind of transformation will readers experience after reading it?
  • How is this book different from all the other books out there on the same topic?
  • What exactly will it help my audience achieve? 
  • What is the mechanism that will help them achieve that?

The goal is to write a headline that will capture their interest and give them just enough information to make them curious to read more.

Use a Curiosity-Driven Headline

Think about that headline for a moment. 

It promises to reveal the “secrets” (i.e. things you don’t know) to get unlimited traffic to your website… which is something that our target market very much wants. 

But it doesn’t introduce the how, only the result. 

In so doing (or not doing), it creates curiosity.

See how it introduces the result without giving the exact “how” of the solution? That’s because the “how” is where curiosity lies. 

You want to make a big promise and make people curious about your “how”. 

But you don’t want to tell them what the “how” is right off the bat.

2. Tell Your Story

Now that you have visitors’ attention with your headline, it’s time to tell them why they should trust you and buy from you. 

This is where telling your story comes in…

Share your personal experiences which relate to the book (if applicable). Explain why this particular topic matters to you and how it has helped you.

Make sure to be authentic and honest here, as this helps create an emotional connection with the reader. This is an important part of the sales page because it helps establish trust between you and your readers. 

You can also include a section about your background and experience that relates to the book’s topic.

Well, it can be as long or as short as you want. It can even be a video — Russell has one at the top of each of his book landing pages.

Introduce the Problem — What was the problem you were facing? Introduce this right at the start of your story. Be candid about the problem you were facing and what you were struggling with. Explain your fears and anxieties. Relate those feelings to the same feelings your target market has. The more you do that, the better.

Things Don’t Go As Planned — You hoped for things to go well… but they didn’t. Something happened and things started to go downhill. Explain in detail the problems you faced and what that was like.

Things Get WORSE — But it didn’t stop there. Things got even worse. This is where you can talk about the problems your target market is facing beneath the surface and bring them into the light.

The Solution is Shared — What good is an amazing and profound solution if it’s not shared with the world? Now you explain why you’re sharing your powerful system with the reader.

3. Justify With Logic

Telling your story triggered a lot of emotions in your target market. 

And if you did it right, they’ll be ready to buy — but as with all purchases, your target market also could use some help justify buying your book with logic. 

The easiest ways to do this are through…

Urgency & Scarcity — “I don’t want to miss out on a great opportunity!” — You can add a countdown timer to your landing page, or show how many copies are available. By adding urgency & scarcity to the mix, it helps create an irresistible offer that pushes people towards buying now rather than later. 

Justify With Logic

Results — “If they used this and got results then I want in!” This is why case studies and stories from people who are already thriving with your system are so powerful. Showing what results other people have achieved helps take the risk out of buying, which encourages more people to buy. 

Urgency & Scarcity

Bonuses —  “I get this, this AND this for the same price? Sign me up!” When done correctly, adding bonuses to your offer can be a great way to sweeten the deal and push more people toward buying.

Guarantee —  “I have nothing to lose!” — This is where you give your target market the peace of mind they need. They know if it doesn’t work for them, they can get their money back.

Combining stories, urgency & scarcity, results, bonuses, and testimonials on your landing page, it helps to build trust with your target market and justify the purchase of your book. 

4. Don’t Overthink the Design

It’s very common for people, when they’re creating a landing page for their book, to get hung up on design. 

Design matters. But probably not as much as you think. 

It’s more important to focus on the message and structure of the page. The design of your page just needs to be passable — in other words, it just can’t be so bad that people think your offer is sketchy.
