Statcounter has updated its search engine market share stats for April – and the results are shocking. If they’re true. I’m doubtful – but hoping Statcounter will confirm whether these numbers are indeed accurate. By the numbers. Google’s U.S. search market share in the U.S. fell to 77.52% in April, down from 86.94% in March and down from 88.8% in April 2023.

I made my first cold call when I was 15. I was given a list of phone numbers of community groups. I called each number to ask the community group to conduct a charity bike-a-thon to raise money for a charity. I was the only person to get a group to raise money. In fact, I organized two events, which was more than the rest of the people making calls.

It’s human nature to focus on the big things. Whether it’s a BHAG, a closing presentation for a major deal, a big job opportunity, a critical event. We obsess about how we succeed. We develop strategies, contingency plans, prep and rehearse. We are driven to succeed for those big things. We treat the little things differently. We may skip them, thinking they aren’t important.

Acquirers try to put 30%-40% of the founders’ consideration at risk, if they can get away with it. This sort of works, but it leads to “rest-and-vest” behavior if not thoughtfully combined with Carrots (next point).

The Google interface we know today will be gone in less than three years. As ridiculous as this prediction may seem, I remember back in 2004 when Google.com finally overtook Yahoo.com.
