I broke into SaaS in 2009 I was the second sales hire and the 10th overall hire at a NewYork City based SaaS business called Zocdoc. I know everyone likes ping pong, but I like quiet investor meetings. QUESTION : As a sales leader, how do you manage expectations across the organization with product and other functions?
We’re taking a ton of meetings, but I think in terms of quality, the best time will probably be… It hasn’t really started yet. Jason Lemkin: So, traditionally in normal and good times, there is a sort of very slow-paced pressure as a VC, which is to do X deals a year. How does that strike you today for new deals?
And so, because we had done this before, we were able to very quickly do the fundraising, so we literally had like two meetings with each one of the investors and were able to close on the financing, so I don’t think that’s normal. “Well we’ll meet you on Thursday we’re going to fly in.
I began my career in new product development and starting in 2011 got really excited about the high growth phase of a company. I was on the product team and saw this opportunity for us to work more cross functionally across the company and focus heavily on retention and monetization. If you value speed, you might up in for an Uber X.
I don’t know if it’s 20 percent per month or did you just go 20 percent last meeting. Daniel, you’re in NewYork, which I think is still part of America, of our other side of the country, but quite different. How do you think about the Bay Area over there in NewYork? NewYork’s a big city.

Because I think at every single function it was sort of… If you’ve ever seen the movie 300, there’s the masses and masses. It was tedious in certain ways.
” Then driving that through the sales process and constantly coming back to that, that as we architect a solution, as we think about how we’re going to, which of our packages are you going to select, how are you going to integrate them, et cetera, constantly coming back to, are they going to meet the objectives of those KPIs?
And then in the enterprise, some of them tie them to multi-year deals, but there’s actually no impact on conversion rate from the free trial to a paid customer as a function of the contract value. He is the CEO of Kustomer, which is a really fast growing customer support platform based in NewYork.
So don’t be too upset if you’re not yet at the four X number, but know for sure that if you don’t get beyond that, you’re not going to have a very profitable company in the long run. Are we seeing the blurring of lines between these functions, do you think? This is where the cloud meets. Ed Zitron: Yeah.
With more companies launching and thriving outside of Silicon Valley, regions such as ‘Silicon Slopes’ in Utah and ‘Silicon Alley’ in NewYork City are gaining traction within the startup scene. I was sending a 100 emails a week and doing those initial meetings for that firm for two years. And that was me. In that regard, yes.
